Long Beach Coast Debuts Their Alter Ego In Oakland.
In the words of Warren G, “Regulators, Mount Up!” Yesterday was Friday, which meant the Long Beach Coast debuted their alter egos, The Regulators. The Regulators played their rivals, the Oakland Ballers, in game one of a six-game series at Raimondi Park on the road and fell short, 12-11.
Jack Martin started on the mound, pitched four innings, and struck out six.
The Regulators maintained the momentum of their first series win, as Emilio Corona continues to be a power bat. With a runner on first, Corona hit his third home run in 4 games as the Regulators took the lead early in the game, 2-0.
In the top of the second, after the ballers gave up two singles and a free base by a hit by a pitch, Eddy Pelc delivered a two-RBI single and advanced to second on a right field error. Cooper Vest added to the rally with a two-RBI single to right field, bringing in another two runs. The Regulators extended their lead 6-0.
The bottom of the third was the beginning of the Ballers' comeback as they had a rally of their own with two singles and a homer to end the inning 6-3.
The Regulators had a slug fest in the top of the fourth with Anthony Matta setting the tone with a lead-off homer. With runners on first and second, Cuba Bess hit a moonshot, bringing in 3 runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Ballers rallied for a run. But in the bottom of the sixth, the ballgame was close, as the bases were loaded. Ballers' Jeter Ybarra hit a grand slam, ending the inning 10-8. Bottom of the seventh, the ballers added another run to the board as they homered again. Ending the 7th inning 10-9.
Paul Winland Jr extends the Regulators' lead as he went yard, making the score 11-9. The Regulators ran into trouble later in the inning after issuing four walks and hitting two batters, which allowed the Ballers to tie the game. With two runners in scoring position, Oakland won on a walk-off sacrifice fly, ending the ballgame 12-11.
The Regulators will be back as the Long Beach Coast for game two of the series. Despite the tough loss, the Regulators showed resilience at the plate and will look to bounce back.
