LONG BEACH, CA – The Long Beach Coast (12-3) surged to victory 5-4 at Blair Field over the RedPocket Mobiles (1-14) thanks to right fielder Matthew Bardowell’s eighth inning triple on Thursday night. Long Beach surrendered its three-run initial lead in the seventh, but the Fontana-native played a heavy role in the turnaround.
Designated hitter Thomas McCaffrey jumpstarted the L.B.C. with a three-run homer in the third inning, but the bats fell silent after that. In the eighth, Bardowell tripled home third baseman Patrick Roche to knot the score at 4-4, scoring on a sacrifice fly from center fielder Emilio Corona.
On the mound, starter Jack Martin impressed with six innings out of the gate. The right-hander allowed two hits and one unearned run, keeping his pitch count to just 86.
The Mob scraped into the lead, tagging Coast reliever Ryan Faulks for two runs in the seventh inning. Submarine tosser Steven Ordorica cleaned up the frame before flamethrower Mason Bryan dealt a shutout eighth, earning his first win on the season thanks to the effort from his bats. Closer Zach Voelker zipped through a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one, earning his third save, and grabbing that accolade on back-to-back nights.
The first Regulators Night at Blair Field kicks into action at 6:35 p.m. on Friday with gates opening at 5:05 p.m.
