Coast Complete First Six-Game Sweep in Inaugural Home Series
The first-place Long Beach Coast (15-3) defeated the RedPocket Mobiles (1-17) in their lowest scoring game of the season to extend their winning streak to 12 on Sunday afternoon.
LONG BEACH, CA – The first-place Long Beach Coast (15-3) defeated the RedPocket Mobiles (1-17) in their lowest scoring game of the season to extend their winning streak to 12 on Sunday afternoon.
The Coast took the initial lead for the third time in the series with a run in both the first and second innings, both a result of a leadoff extra-base hit that came around to score on an RBI out by designated hitter Cuba Bess and third baseman Patrick Roche.
After an early 2-0 lead, Long Beach didn't score for the next five innings, a product of a seven-inning performance by RedPocket Mobiles righty Blayne Huter in his first professional start. His prolonged outing where he allowed three runs (two earned) and no walks was the longest outing by any pitcher at Blair Field this season.
Coast starter Brett Wozniak had another quality outing, going six innings and giving up three hits. The first hit he gave was a single to Mobiles’ hot corner Marco Martinez in the top of the second. After retiring 10 consecutive batters, Wozniak gave up his final two hits back-to-back in the fifth, the second of which resulted in an Andy Valdes RBI single to right center to end the shutout.
Coast reliever Julien Hernandez took the mound in the top of the eighth. Despite only facing four batters after giving up a leadoff single to Mobiles’ second baseman Spence Coffman, a balk and a wild pitch put Coffman in position to tie up the game on an RBI groundout hit by Jordan Harrison-Dudley.
With a 2-2 tie heading into the bottom of the eighth, Huter’s day was quickly ended after a leadoff error on a dropped pop-up to the rookie hillsman himself. Aidan Cardeñas entered the game looking to be the Mob’s firefighter; however, he would only record one out, facing four batters and giving up back-to-back RBI doubles, the first of which was the go-ahead two-run two-bagger by Cuba Bess.
After a four-run rally, the Coast took a 6-2 lead into the ninth for rising star closer Zach Voelker to close the door on a perfect inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Despite giving up the game-tying run, Julien Hernandez (1-1) received his first win of the season. Aidan Cardeñas (0-1) took the first loss of his rookie season.
The newest Troy Percival-led Pioneer League expansion team now sits alone in first place, a half game above the Billings Mustangs (14-3). With their first six-game sweep, the Coast have three straight series sweeps heading into week four of the 2026 campaign. Long Beach will take their 12-game winning streak into a second six-game series against the Modesto Roadsters (11-7) to finish the inaugural homestand.
The first game of the Roadsters series starts on Tuesday night, with the first pitch set for 6:35 PM PDT. The Beach Ball Pregame Show will begin at 6:15 PM.
