LONG BEACH, CA – The Long Beach Coast (23-6) held a nine-inning lead over the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds (10-19) to take their sixth consecutive series in a 9-6 Saturday night victory.
The Coast jumped ahead to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, courtesy of a four-hit, two-error rally that included a Jacob Jablonski two-run single to left field. Long Beach added two insurance runs in the bottom of the third on a Jablonski sacrifice fly and an Anthony Mata RBI double, providing Coast starter Garrett Van Deventer with a bountiful 7-0 lead after the first three.
Van Deventer began his third start in Long Beach with four scoreless innings with four strikeouts and one hit allowed. The Freebirds broke the shutout in the fifth with a five-hit, nine-batter rally that resulted in four runs for the visitors. Freebirds designated hitter Andrew Bergeron scored the first run on an RBI single to right center, marking the first run for the Freebirds in 23 innings.
Four Freebirds relievers tried to limit runs after starter Ryder Mancuso exited the game in the fourth, with the bullpen allowing two runs to the Coast over the final five innings of the game.
Coast relievers Ryan Faulks and Zach Voelker allowed one run each in the final three innings, but held the lead that the Coast took in the first through the finish line.
Garrett Van Deventer (1-0) achieved his first decision and victory of the 2026 season, while Mancuso (0-2) received his second consecutive loss in his second professional start.
The Coast will look to extend their four-game winning streak and their potential fourth series sweep barring a victory in the Sunday series finale at Blair Field. The Beach Ball Pregame Show will take place at 12:45 PM PDT on HomeTeam Network and first pitch will kick off at 1:05 PM.
