MODESTO, CA – The Long Beach Coast (28-7) beat the Modesto Roadsters (20-15) in a one-sided 13-8 series-clinching middle game on Saturday night.
The Coast went with their alternate identity Regulators jerseys on back-to-back nights, an identity they had won six of their seven prior matches with under the moniker, including on Friday night’s 4-1 series opener victory.
The Long Beach offense was charged up early in Modesto. First baseman Cooper Vest brought in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, starting a Coast lead they wouldn’t relinquish for the remainder of the game.
Coast infielders Cuba Bess and Jacob Jablonski helped the team break ahead to a 6-0 advantage in the top of the third with a pair of multi-run home runs, both of which marked their 10th and team lead-tying home run of the season.
Coast starter Jack Martin faced seven batters in his first two frames, but following the break-ahead inning in the third, Martin allowed a two-out, three-run home run to Justin Boyd to erase the early shutout.
The Coast put up two insurance runs in response in the top of the fourth, including the third Long Beach home run of the night by left fielder Eddy Pelc. Martin would then give up another three-run blast to Modesto in the bottom of the fourth, this time to designated hitter Osiris Johnson. The New Jersey-native right hander completed the fourth, leaving the frame with 82 pitches on the night and an 8-6 lead, but would not return into the fifth to qualify for the win.
After back-to-back innings of run production for Modesto in the third and fourth, the three Long Beach relievers in succession held the Roadsters scoreless for four straight innings, with a combined two hits, one walk and four strikeouts among them in those four frames.
The Long Beach offense scored in every one of their first six offensive frames with the exception of the second, continuing to add on to a lead that reached as high as a 12-6 advantage after the sixth. With a big fly from Coast third baseman Patrick Roche in the top of the ninth inning, Long Beach would finish the night with four home runs.
Coast reliever Steven Ordorica entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with a seven-run lead. Ordorica allowed three hits and two runs, but the late Modesto offensive effort would fall flat.
Long Beach took their ninth series victory on Saturday night and their eighth consecutive in the 2026 campaign. Coast southpaw Jake Dixon (1-0) received his first decision of the season, going 1.2 innings and starting the four consecutive scoreless inning streak on the Roadsters in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Coast will seek their fifth series sweep of the season in the Northern California roadtrip endcap on Sunday morning at Modern Woodmen Field, with first pitch scheduled for 11 AM PDT.
